Entry# 8 - Making New Friends

UUUUNNNGGGHHH!!

Dodge let out a long unearthly sound. It sounded like it came from an entirely different person! If fact, if I hadn't seen him climb into the plane back at the farm I probably wouldn't believe it was the same person, his features were so radically changed! The one telltale remaining sign was the golden tooth that still prominently displayed itself in his mouth. I shoved him off of me as quickly as possible. He tried to get up and move towards me but I shoved him again, harder, and he fell back to the ground.

I knew that I couldn't bring myself to kill my friend. Seeing someone you actually knew become one of these monsters added a whole new level of tragedy to the matter. I moved back towards the burning wreckage of the plane. Making a quick inspection of the ground I found what I was looking for: a length of braided rope, somewhat singed by the fire, but mostly intact. Turning back to Dodge I carefully wrestled him to the ground, exercising extreme caution to avoid his attempts to claw or bite me. This task would have been much harder to another person, but thankfully Dodge was a small guy and I was able to corral him easily. Once that was done I firmly bound his wrists and ankles then stepped back to admire my work.

“Sorry buddy, I didn't have a choice,” I said, as Dodge writhed on the ground in front of me.

“You had a choice alright.” A voice suddenly spoke behind me. “You could've just killed the man and put him out of his misery!”

I whirled around to see a tall, lean man stepping out from behind a large tree. He looked ancient, and his long thick beard and tattered clothing seemed to indicate that he had been in these woods a long time.

“Who are you?” I demanded.

“Oh, no one really,” he replied, piously. “Just an unbiased observer on the plights of the world.”

I looked him over carefully as he moved closer into the glow of the burning wreckage. “You look like you've been hanging out on this server a long time!”

The man scoffed when I mentioned the word server. “The servers don't restrict me!” he declared. “I go anywhere in the Roblox world I desire. I am a non-entity!”

“What is that exactly?” I asked.

“It means, sir, that according to the server statistics I do not exist!” He paused for a moment to stroke his beard and then looked at me with a twinkle in his eye. “I am written into the very code of the program, meaning that I persist regardless of the status of the servers or anything else.”

I had never heard of such a thing but I supposed it could be true. It may have explained why he seemed so old since he never regenerated the way Roblox people like myself do each time they leave a server.

“I see. So can you perhaps explain what is going on with my friend?” I asked.
